PALMER — The Kodiak girls used a fourth-quarter comeback to score a 39-37 win over the Homer Mariners, during consolation round action at the Northern Lights Conference tournament Friday morning at Palmer High School.
Homer held a 9-2 advantage in the third, but Kodiak hit a few key buckets and two crucial free throws down the stretch to move into Saturday morning's consolation semifinal round. Homer was eliminated from the tourney with the loss.
Kodiak took a 37-36 lead with 37 seconds in regulation, and Betsie McCarty extended the Bears' lead when she hit two free throws with 19 seconds left.
Alysa Horn led the Bears with 11 points, while Jessie Keplinger added nine. Reba Temple scored a game-high 12 for Homer.
Kodiak's next opponent will be determined Friday evening during the championship semifinal round. The Bears play the loser of the Palmer-Wasilla semifinal at 9 a.m. Saturday.
