MAT-SU — Construction on an addition for the Dorothy Swanda Jones Borough building in Palmer has begun.

Entrance to the building has changed and for the next four months, meetings for the Mat-Su Borough Assembly, Planning Commission and Platting Board will be moved to the school district administration building.

The addition will create a larger public meeting space and new workspace for employees. The project also will move the new main entrance to the building to the back, or west side, of the building.

Americans with Disabilities Act-complaint access will be through the IT entrance. Two parking lots in front of IT will be for handicapped parking.

For a complete list of where regular meetings will be held, visit the calendar on the borough website or look for the notice of public meetings on the Mat-Su Borough page in the Frontiersman.

Plywood was recently placed over windows facing the courtyard as a protective measure for staff from the heavy equipment.

Once the addition is framed in, the windows can be removed and reinstalled.
