MAT-SU — University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will offer a series of free workshops. Classes are:
• Julie Cascio will teach a class on Making Sauerkraut from 5:30 to 7 p.m., July 30 at the Dorothy Page Museum, 323 N. Main, Wasilla. Natural fermentation is one of the oldest ways of preserving food. Join Julie Cascio and learn how to make your own sauerkraut, a naturally fermented cabbage.
• Learn to use thermometers to know when meat is safely cooked at noon, July 29 at the Moose Lodge, in Palmer. For more information, or to register, call 745-3360.
• Julie Cascio will teach a jam-making class from 10 a.m. to noon, Aug. 2 at the Talkeetna Museum. Cost is $10. Register online at bit.ly/ces-workshops.
