On Oct. 11, Wasilla Police arrested 26-year-old Kyle C. McManus, of Wasilla, on Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the second degree, Misconduct Involving Weapons in the second degree — both Class B felonies — and misdemeanor Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the fourth degree and three misdemeanor charges of Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the fifth degree as a result of an incident in the parking lot of the Wasilla Walgreens.
Police became involved after a report of a drug deal came in involving two cars. The officer on the scene was met by a store employee, who told the officer about a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado that was purportedly involved in the alleged deal.
The officer approached the vehicle, and, according to court reports, was told by the driver that he was waiting for his girlfriend who was inside at the pharmacy. According to reports, McManus informed the officer he had a firearm on his person and handed that weapon to the officer.
McManus then agreed to a search of the truck, and before beginning the search, the officer asked whether he was “buying or selling” in reference to the reported drug deal. According to court reports, McManus admitted to the officer he had purchased heroin in the parking lot that night.
In the truck, police allegedly found a black Springfield XDS .45 caliber pistol with an attached laser sight. Records show the gun with that serial number had been reported stolen. McManus, according to the report, told the officer he was planning on taking the gun to the police station to find out whether it had been reported stolen.
Also in the center console, police allegedly found a “small rectangular plate about 10 inches long and 6 inches wide” with a “sticky residue resembling tar heroin” adhered to it. Police then allegedly found an estimated 0.1 to 0.2 grams of black tar heroin.
Police also claim to have found a small black pack, which contained a small amount of crystal methamphetamine, along with an unopened bag of several syringes. On top of that, police claim to have found a small Derringer pistol and an H&R model 649, .22 caliber revolver.
McManus’ girlfriend then returned from inside the store and reportedly informed police she had a pistol in her purse on the front floor, which the police officer seized.
A further search of the vehicle allegedly revealed an SKS model wooden stock semi-automatic rifle with an affixed bayonet under the back seat.
Police also allegedly found a spiral notebook in the front seat that included names, dollar amounts and phrases like “paid,” “trade” and “owe.”
Police say the suspected heroin and meth tested positive with field test kits with the heroin weighing in at 3.3 grams and the methamphetamine at 0.29 grams.
McManus was given bail at $10,000 cash performance bond and court-appointed third party, and he received a preliminary hearing date of Oct. 23.
