Cougars edge Warriors

ANCHORAGE — Service squashed a late Warrior rally and held on to grab an 8-6 nonconference win over Wasilla at Kosiniski Fields in Anchorage on Wednesday.

Service forced Wasilla to ground into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning. The Warriors had scored twice during the frame to bring WHS within two.

Tommy Rodamer was dealt the loss on the mound for the Warriors, but Rodamer collected a hit and scored a pair of runs. David Green led WHS with two hits, two runs and two RBI in the loss.

It marked the season-opener for the Warriors, who played Chugiak in an unofficial game on Tuesday. The Mustangs scored a 6-1 in the scrimmage.

In other baseball action, East Anchorage handed Palmer a 7-0 in the season-opener for the Moose.
