To the editor:
Palmer City Councilman Mike Chmielewksi should be ashamed of himself for joining the Alaska Democrat Party in a cheap partisan attack against Gov. Palin last week. Chmielewski’s comments that he’s acquainted with the governor are disingenuous and misleading. Just because Chmielewski calls the Mat-Su Valley home, along with nearly 90,000 other Alaskans, doesn’t mean he is acquainted with the Palin family or the governor.
More important, however, Chmielewski was elected at-large to serve on the non-partisan Palmer City Council, not to engage in partisan grandstanding. Is Chmielewski getting his face in the press for free publicity because he is planning a run for mayor? Seems likely. The next time you see Chmielewski blogging on his computer at the local Palmer coffee shop he frequents, or driving around in his hybrid (“Alaskans for Obama” bumper sticker still on display), let him know he’s supposed to be working on behalf of Palmer residents, not engaging in partisan attacks to further his future political career.
