On Nov. 9, Rufelia B. Blackmer, 45, of Wasilla, was indicted on one count of manslaughter in the death of Gary Sakola, and another count of assault in the second degree.
Both charges stem from an automobile accident on Nov. 20, 2016, for which Blackmer was indicted on manslaughter charges for ‘recklessly’ causing Sakola’s death. Blackmer was also charged with assault in the first degree for allegedly ‘recklessly causing serious physical injury to another by means of a dangerous instrument… a motor vehicle.’
Both charges are Class A felonies.
Blackmer was bonded on $20,000 cash and is due back in court for a Feb. 23, 2018 hearing.
Court documents stated that Blackmer was to have no alcohol and provide ‘no less than five PBT alcohol tests per day.’
On Nov. 14, Norman Melgreen Jr., 43, of Anchorage was charged with vehicle theft in the first degree, a felony, as well as two other misdemeanor charges as a result of events on Nov. 13.
Police responded after the owner of a 2011 Ford cargo van reported his vehicle stolen. GPS showed it to be located at the Fred Meyer in Palmer.
Upon arrival, police stated they witnessed a man enter the car and drive away. Police stopped the car at Mile 40 of the Glenn Highway and arrested him on the spot.
