PALMER — A two-vehicle collision on Trunk Road near Forestwood Drive sent five people to area hospitals and closed the road for about an hour Thursday evening.
Alaska State Troopers and emergency crews responded around 8:18 p.m., Jan. 23.
Troopers say their investigation determined that David Bellmay, 50, of Houston was driving southbound on Trunk Road with one adult passenger and one 7-year-old passenger in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, according to a trooper dispatch from the incident.
Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters said the road was closed during the incident so an emergency helicopter could land to transport the boy injured in the accident to Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Investigation determined that “Bellmay crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 1994 Toyota 4Runner that was traveling northbound on Trunk Road with two adult occupants,” according to the troopers.
Four adults, including Bellmay, were transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Troopers say both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
Investigation into the incident continues.
