WASILLA— Local musician Jamie Bailey recently participated in a question and answer interview to discuss his recent participation in a national music contest called “The Opening Act” and his latest melodic ventures.

Q: How did things go with ‘The Opening Act?

“They all voted online… We didn’t make it. It is what it is. Maybe next year. Maybe next time. It would have been a great stepping stone.”

Q: How do you feel about participating?

“We got a lot of exposure out of it. We’ve got two, three songs that are gonna come out. We’ll be just fine… I met a lot of good people.”

Q: How have things been in general?“I’m just having fun with it, man… I do all my own lyrics and all my own vocals.

Q: How would you describe your relationship with music?

“It’s great therapy for the soul.”

Q: What are your goals for your musical career?

“I think that if I sing the right song at the right time and the right person hears it, they’ll have a piece of my heart and life will be better. You find songs at certain times in your life where it just really means something… It’s for fun. I didn’t quit my day job.”

Q: What are some of your favorite things about making music?

“Just making something from nothing… There’s nothing more gratifying.”

Q: What’s motivating you to keep trying to get your music heard?

“I think it’s because of all the people who want me to. I have so many songs inside of me that are undeveloped that want to come out. That’s what calls me, to share that music for people who like it and enjoy it… When they put your music on between sets and the people go out and start dancing. They don’t know you’re singing it. They don’t know who you are but they like the words and they like the song. It isn’t about you or even what you created. You just kick back with the song.”

Q: What’s your plan from here?

“Keep making music and see what happens.”
