BUTTE — Butte Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire on Sunday night at about 5 p.m. on Bodenburg Loop. Butte FD was able to save the house on the property just a few feet away from the bus and shop that were fully engulfed.
“Before we got here it was fully engulfed, you could see smoke from the main Glenn Highway. Alaska State Troopers was on location, they helped make sure everybody was all clear of the house which we got and as soon as we pulled up we just started fighting fire, attacking fire,” said Butte Fire Chief Louis LaRousse. “Between the shop and bus and house area saved the house and that was one of the main things make sure we save the house if we could.”
LaRousse said that one firefighter was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for heat exhaustion upon responding to the fire but that the firefighter was in stable condition. LaRousse said it took fire crews just minutes to extinguish the flames.
“It was minutes,” said LaRousse. “We actually had a standby crew at the station today all weekend with the 4th of July going on so we had a quick response out of it.”
