JUNEAU — Sophomore running back Silver Maake ran for three first half touchdowns to lead the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears to a 33-0 win over the Colony Knights in the first round of the ASAA Alaska large-schools state playoffs Saturday at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Field in Juneau.
The win moved top-ranked Juneau into a semifinal rematch against second-ranked South Anchorage next Saturday at Anchorage Football Stadium. The two teams also met in last year’s semis, a 27-6 win for the Wolverines.
Juneau coach Bill Chalmers said he’s looking forward to a chance at revenge against South next week.
“We have a little score to settle with South,” Chalmers told Juneau radio station KINY following the game.
Maake scored on runs of 22, 4 and 16 yards, and Alex Fagerstrom caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Bubba Larson as the Railbelt champion Crimson Bears (9-0) rolled to a 26-0 lead at the half.
“Things worked out pretty much the way we wanted to,” Chalmers said.
Juneau’s final score came on a 47-yard punt return by junior Lincoln Maake midway through the third quarter.
Colony, which lost to South in last year’s state championship game, finished the season with a record of 4-5.
