PALMER — David Dahms resigned Monday from the Matanuska Electric Association Board of Directors, a senior manager confirmed late Monday evening.
“He just said for personal reasons he was resigning,” said MEA Assistant General Manager Tuckerman Babcock, who did not have any more information to offer regarding Dahms’ reasons for departure.
Dahms could not be reached immediately for comment.
Babcock said that according to utility bylaws, a majority of the remaining board must decide on a replacement. As to the process for accepting applicants and interviewing candidates, Babcock said he couldn’t predict what process the board would use.
“They’ve used many different ways to replace directors,” Babcock said.
Dahms first came to the board through an appointment in 2005 when he replaced John Alexander, Babcock said. Whoever is chosen to replace Dahms won’t have long to serve since his term is up next year.
Dahms, of Palmer, is an “at large” director, meaning that, unlike Palmer’s Larry DeVilbiss, Wasilla’s Katie Hurley and Eagle River’s David Glines, he does not represent a specific geographical area.
The board of directors has lately been undergoing a bit of turmoil as Director Janet Kincaid waits to see what action, if any, the board will take regarding her possible violations of utility bylaws.
Kincaid has said publicly she does not believe the allegations have merit. She is set to receive a full hearing on the matter at the board’s next meeting Oct. 13.
