PALMER — The Dallas Cowboys have released former Palmer High School standout Junior Aumavae.
Just days before he was slated to return to Texas to begin training camp with the Cowboys, team officials called Aumavae Tuesday morning to tell the 2004 Palmer High School graduate that he would be placed on waivers.
Aumavae officially became a free agent Wednesday, he said.
“It’ll give me a chance to look at other teams and other teams the chance to look at me,” Aumavae said.
Aumavae’s release comes after Dallas selected University of Illinois defensive lineman Josh Brent in the NFL supplemental draft last week.
Dallas also released linebacker Donovon Woods.
Aumavae spent just short of three months with the Cowboys after Dallas signed the nose guard moments after the conclusion of the 2010 NFL draft.
“I’m thankful I was out there with them,” Aumavae said. “It was a chance to showcase my skills.”
Now, Aumavae said he will continue working out, preparing for a potential opportunity with another team.
“We’ll see how it works out,” Aumavae said.
