Funeral services for Dan Knighten, 65-year-old Sheridan, Wyo., resident who passed away Thursday at the V.A. Medical Center in Sheridan, will be held April 19 at 2 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo, Wyo., with Pastor Mike Morrison officiating. Visitation will be held from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held in Willow Grove cemetery with the VFW and American Legion in charge of military graveside services. Friends may donate in Mr. Knighten's memory to St. Jude's Hospital in care of the Adams Funeral Home.
Daniel Cody Knighten was born on June 12, 19387, in Edgerton, Wyo., to Dallas and Martha Knighten. He grew up in Buffalo and Kaycee and attended Johnson County High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in June of 1956 and served in Greenland and the Philippine Islands. He received an honorable discharge in February of 1960 and returned to Wyoming and got a job with the Wyoming Highway Department. He was married in 1960 to Karen Bridwell in Gillette, Wyo. They moved to a horse ranch in Rosette, Wyo. in 1974 and lived there until 1985 when they moved to Worland, Wyo., where he was an oil and gas supervisor. He retired in 1989 and they moved to Palmer where he spent his time cooking in hunting camps and enjoying the Alaska wilderness.
His wife was killed in an auto accident in December 1998 and he continued living in Palmer until 2001, when he moved back to Sheridan. In September 2001, he had a stroke and he became a resident of Sheridan Manor Care Facility until the time of his death. Mr. Knighten loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by four sons, Shorty Knighten and his wife Corina of Cheyenne, Hoss Knighten of Gillette, and Pistol Knighten and Biggun Knighten both of Anchorage; one daughter, Trixie Dean and her husband Steve of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, David Knighten of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jimmy Knighten of Gakona and Earl Knighten of Thermopolis, Wyo.; three sisters, Eva Garland of Buffalo, and Elisabeth Cook and Martha Mack, both of Sheridan; nine grandchildren, Cassie, Kody, Hayly, Holly and Chance Knighten all of Cheyenne, Megan and Cydnne Dean of Chicago, Lexie Knighten of Conroe, Texas, and Shelby Knighten of Eagle River; and four step-granddaughters, Amber and Jesse Roach of Conroe, Texas, and Chris and Katie both of Eagle River. He is also survived by one honorary brother, Ron Hanson of Buffalo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one infant granddaughter.
