Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Danny Ray Jolliffe died Nov. 22, 2005, in Clarks Point.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., today, , in the atrium of the Regan Building, 3161 E. Palmer-Wasilla Hwy., Wasilla.
His family wrote, “Please bring your sense of humor and a story about Dan to share with us as we celebrate his life.”
Mr. Jolliffe was born in Oceanside, Calif., on Dec. 16, 1955.
He graduated from Shoreline High School, Shoreline, Wash., in 1974 and completed the electrical apprentice program at Shoreline Community College.
He married Kathy Schelb on Oct. 24, 1981, and they made Alaska their home.
“Dan's family was everything to him and was his greatest source of joy,” his loved ones wrote. “He was very passionate about flying and flew his Cessna as often as possible. He was fiercely loyal to his friends and did anything for them. Dan was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
“His sense of humor was his trademark. You never knew what joke or sound would enter a room with him.
“Dan and Kathy owned a general and electrical contracting company as well as several other local businesses, and Dan worked tirelessly to make the businesses successful.”
Mr. Jolliffe is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Jeramy; daughters, Katie and Sara; grandson, Aden; mother, Patricia Markel; sister and brother-in-law, Shelley and Andy Nelsen; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Jim Strand; nieces, Shanna White and Cherie Morris, and nephew, Jeff Nelsen.
Mr. Jolliffe was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Jolliffe.
