Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Darlene Virginia Kackman, 69, died April 11, 2005, at Valley Hospital in Palmer. Services were held at St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer on Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Kackman was born on a farm outside Wildrose, N.D., on May 10, 1935. She married Lyle Kackman on Nov. 2, 1957 and the couple moved to Alaska in 1958. Together they built a home and raised a family in Rabbit Creek. The couple briefly homesteaded in Willow. In 1976, they moved the entire family to Palmer to enjoy the benefits of country living.
Mrs. Kackman is remembered by her family and friends for her sense of humor, wit and warmth.
Her family wrote, "She made the Kackman home a place of laughter, love and good food. Her homemade buns and lefsa were staples. Darlene's love of cooking and baking was exceeded only by her love of children."
She is survived by her husband, Lyle; sons, Kyle, Kip and Kevin; daughters, Vanessa and Leithi, and grandchildren, Aubry, Brittany, Sterling, Tom, Tik, Kenden, Ryan, Cole and Alex.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell and Lillian Twete; brother, Dave; daughter, Leatha; son, Kendell, and infant daughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1057 W. Fireweed Suite 204, Anchorage, AK 99503.
