Living his dream as an Alaskan, he pursued many different lines of employment, ending with the Department of Corrections from October 1981 to March 2002. He retired from Corrections on April 1, 2002.
He was a life member of the NIZQ as well as the Moose and Elks. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years, serving his last years as Flotilla commander. He devoted many hours to operation and vessel safety instruction and checks.
His family said, "Daryl was a collector and had many passions for his hobbies of photography, guns, fishing tackle and all kinds of 'Alaskan good stuff. Daryl had a great sense of humor and was also known for his forthrightness and love of animals."
Mr. Sheaver is survived by his daughter, Sonya, of Seward; and his parents, Loretta and Jim Sheaver, of York Rapids, Minn. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Nicholas.
