David Heafer

David Charles Heafer passed away in his sleep on February 13, 2023. Dave was a life-long Alaskan and beloved owner of the family-run flooring store, Giant Don's Flooring America. Dave was born in Anchorage to John Benjamin and Mary Norrine Heafer. Dave was the third of four children, all of whom remain in Alaska. A 1986 graduate of Dimond High School, as a teen and young adult Dave enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. Dave is remembered by many as a dedicated businessman. In his early twenties, he owned a flooring installation business, and in 2001 purchased the Anchorage flooring store, Giant Don's Flooring America. For over two decades, Dave developed and expanded the company, and was proud of the success of not only the flagship store in Anchorage, but also a second Giant Don's in Wasilla, Alaska. Outside of business, Dave had a passion for traveling, fishing, and hunting. He spent a lot of time camping at Skilak Lake, and had many stories about fishing and hunting trips he'd taken around Alaska. Those who know Dave recall that hunting season always had him in search of his next moose, bear or sheep. While traveling, Dave made sure that each destination had an abundance of fishing opportunities -- usually a spot with Bass. He was known for his booming laugh and infectious smile. A true kid at heart, Dave had a fun nature about him; he enjoyed rock music, bass fishing, and Canadian whiskey. Those who spent time with Dave remember the way that he always wanted to help, and take care of others. He was dedicated to his business and employees. Dave was lucky to have many lifelong friends, with whom he loved to share memories and stories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, John Benjamin Heafer. He is survived by his companion, partner, and friend, Luz; his children, Hayley and Hunter, and their mother, Tara; his mother, Norrine Heafer; brother, John Heafer (Linda); sisters, Pamela Murray (Tim), and Heidi Schnoberger (Mike); his uncle, Michael Heafer (Marina); and numerous nephews and cousins.
