Daylight saving is wrong

To the editor:

It’s a relief when we set our clocks back in autumn — not just because of the hour we gain, but also because life simply feels right again. The sun is in its natural place in the sky and many of us find that our bodies are immediately more at ease.

The increase in heart attacks that results when we “spring forward” each year (an extreme version of the stress the rest of us endure as our body rhythms are suddenly scrambled) is all the reason we need to stop this practice that’s also been proven to be of no benefit. To thoughtlessly continue along the same path would be as foolish as it is unethical.

Daylight Saving Time doesn’t save any daylight — it just transposes it, leaving us in Alaska with dispiritingly dark mornings (and not particularly safe ones, especially for children going to school) well before we should have to go there, while our evenings remain unnecessarily sunny for too long.

Why not stick with God’s original daylight design? When have we ever succeeded in upgrading His work?
