Death threats prompt man's arrest

PALMER -- A 29-year-old man faces two felony assault charges after threatening to kill his former girlfriend and her father.

Sean M. Judd was indicted Wednesday by a Palmer grand jury on two counts of third-degree assault. The Class C felony carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and $50,000 fine.

Judd was arrested July 7 after making repeated calls to the Big Lake home of Waymon Price. Judd lived with Price's daughter, Brandy, from December 2001 until December 2002.

Charging documents show he made five threatening calls within 90 minutes on July 5, including one in which Judd said he would "slit Brandy's throat."

Alaska State Trooper Kathy Peterson added in her report, "Judd is getting more and more threatening with the phone calls and left numerous messages on Brandy's cell phone about hurting her. Judd burnt down a house on Phenix last year that Brandy was staying at after she left him.

"The calls continue to be very threatening with Judd stating he will kill and bury Brandy."

In one call, Judd referred to killing Waymon Price with a .38 caliber gun, according to charging documents.

Peterson's report said Judd was violent toward Brandy while they lived together.

"He smashed her head down on the floor twice," the report said. "He has hit her in the past and believes he will do it again."

Judd was scheduled for arraignment today in Palmer Superior Court. He was lodged at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility after being arrested but currently is free on $10,000 bail.

Troopers couldn't find Judd after Waymon Price reported the threats on July 5 so they put a "locate" notice on the state's electronic police communications line. Anchorage police took him into custody July 7 at 2:48 a.m. after he was involved in a fight at 6140 Austin in Anchorage.

Judd kicked the back passenger window out of the APD patrol car when he was apprehended, causing an estimated $300 damage.
