Dedicate 4th of July to Iraq War vets

To the editor:

Gov. Sean Parnell, senators and representatives, lieutenant governor, Maj. Gen. Katkus, I encourage you to do something that would be a nice change for you folks.

How about considering a resolution to encourage the various mayors to declare this Fourth of July “Iraq Veterans Day” and encourage the communities that have Fourth of July parades to dedicate the parades to Iraq War vets and their families?

I believe it would be fitting to encourage the Iraq War vets and their families to walk in the parades.

I think it is time we honored these guys and gals, and to have that call come from the governor and Legislature.

St. Louis was the first (to do so) as a city. I think we can do better.

This call should come from the top — the state — to the mayors and all Alaskans, especially to honor the Gold Star families.
