PALMER — After four consecutive victories, returning champion Jason Lamoreaux lost this year’s title to “newcomer” Jens Beck.
Beck has won the Big Lake Triathlon at least five times, but hadn’t dipped his feet in the water for the Colony Christmas event until now.
Beck beat Lamoreaux by 2 minutes and 20 seconds overall with a time of 41:46, catching up during the swim. He was five seconds behind in the run/bike section.
Lamoreaux clocked his fastest time in 2011, when he finished the event in 42:36.
Team Super Awesome, consisting of Gunner Bahn, Mike Nagel and Dara McClary, came back to take the team title, this time in 52:13.
On the women’s side, Amber Stull won the day with a total time of 50 minutes 22 seconds, ahead of longtime participant and high finisher Dianna Clemetson, who came in almost 13 minutes behind Stull.
Stull, like Beck, is a veteran triathlete but new to the Colony Christmas triathlon. She won the Why Not Tri this summer in 52:14.
