WASILLA — Denali Harley Davidson staff are holding a military appreciation week with various community activities and store discounts planned to honor active military and veterans.
“It’s a trying time in America… I just want to make sure they know they’re not forgotten. Part of this is just to say thank you,” Denali Harley store manager Fred Becker said.
Several local veterans covering multiple branches from the U.S. armed forces will receive handmade quilts stitched with love and patriotism from the Quilts of Valor Foundation’s Alaska chapter.
The public is also invited to stop by the dealership for a daily community cookout from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Becker said they’ll be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and other refreshments throughout the evening.
Military Appreciation Week runs from Tuesday, Nov. 9 through Saturday, Nov. 13. Visiting veterans and active military members will receive a 20 percent discount for a single item during this time frame. Becker noted that they’ll have a booth outside the store throughout the week to answer any questions visitors may have as well as show their appreciation to those whos served.
According to Becker, Denali Harley has put on countless community events dedicated to veterans, active military over the years. He said they have no intentions of slowing down, only looking to rev it up from here.
“You’ll see more in the future too. I think we’re a very patriotic dealership,” Becker said.
As far as showing support to local veterans for the rest of the year, Becker said it’s as simple as attending local events such as the one they’re hosting this week to acknowledge veterans and active military wherever we see them.
“Take time to talk and shake hands of veterans. Just let ‘em know that you’re there,” Becker said.
Denali Harley is also hosting Alaska Combat Entertainment, or ACE at the dealership. ACE is putting on an evening full of MMA and Muay Thai-style fighting. The fights start at 7 p.m. Becker said they’ve been hosting ACE for several shows in recent years.
“It was nice to be part of their community,” Becker said.
