WASILLA — Denali Harley Davidson is hosting their annual Tires and Tacos event Saturday, Feb. 12 from 12 to 4 p.m. to collect canned food items and raise funds for the Bikers Fighting Hunger Food Drive.

Mat-Su Valley residents are invited to participate in the community dinner to enjoy plates of homemade tacos to help local food banks make a difference in the community.

The event will also feature a key drawing for a free motorcycle at 2 p.m. Those who arrive early will receive a free rose.

“It’s a fun time,” Denali Harley Davidson general manager, Fred Becker said.

The 2022 Bikers Fighting Hunger Food Drive is officially underway. It started at the beginning of January and runs through February. The organizer, Glen Butts established this annual month of giving to support local families in need across the Valley.

Bikers Fighting Hunger is a project blanketed under the Christian Motorcycle Association’s Mat-Su chapter, the Midnight Son Riders.

Butts and other volunteers set up donation bins for nonperishable food items and cash collection jars at various Valley establishments.

Becker said that he’s happy that their dealership can be a part of a community project that directly affects local families. He said that Butts has been doing important work in the community that goes above and beyond the annual food drive for many years.

“His outreach is pretty diverse and effective,” Becker said. “He’s all in. It’s great to see.”

According to Becker, Denali Harley participates in a different philanthropic project or fundraiser each month. He said it’s all part of the dealership’s core identity and the positive narrative of local bikers doing what they can to help the community.

“The Mat-Su community, it’s great being a part of it,” Becker said. “The biker life is to help.”

Becker said thrift overall operation has been faring well in spite of the surrounding circumstances and challenges caused by COVID-19.

“We have avoided a lot of the controversy the pandemic has created,” Becker said.

Becker said they have numerous community activities coming up after the Tires and Tacos event, including motorcycle giveaways, and a fundraising event for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in March,

The Bikers Fighting Huger Food Drive culminates with a community spaghetti dinner to honor those who helped along the way, Sunday, Feb. 27 at the Mat-Su Alano Club from 2 to 5 p.m.

Admission for both Tacos and Tires and the spaghetti dinner is $12 at the door or 12 canned goods. Kids 10 and under are free with a limit of one child per adult.
