Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Denise Vines McGee died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, in Kenai. She was 45.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at the First Methodist Church in Clearwater, Fla. Her cremated remains will be buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in Raleigh, N.C.
Mrs. McGee was born Jan. 27, 1959 in Orlando, Fla., the daughter of Robert and Diann (Rathbun) Vines. She moved to Alaska in April 2002 and resided in Wasilla.
Mrs. McGee was Methodist and enjoyed walking with her dogs, spoiling her grandchildren and reading.
Her husband said, "She was the kindest, most generous person that ever was. I was privileged to share the last 14 years with her and it was way too short."
Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, James W. McGee of Wasilla; mother, Diann R. Vines of Clearwater, Fla.; brothers, Douglas D. Vines of Clearwater, Fla., and Robert D. Vines of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Dena V. Northram of Billings, Mont.; stepsons, Robert G. McGee of Greenville, S.C., John Michael McGee of Spanish Wells, Bahamas, and James W. McGee II of Wasilla; stepdaughters, Katherine M. Thompson and Ellen S. McGee, both of Charleston, S.C. and nine step-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel of Kenai.
