Dennis Dale Drew, 61, of Wasilla died Sept. 15, 2010 at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Wasilla.
Dennis was born Dec. 3, 1948 in Baker, Mont., the son of Elmer and Jeanette (Kreeger) Drew. As a young man the family moved to Antigo, Wis., where Dennis completed his education.
Following his graduation from high school he began driving truck, an occupation he enjoyed and excelled at. He later became an alcohol and drug addiction counselor at a group home for boys in Merrill, Wis., later moving to Alaska where he worked six years at Nugent’s Ranch providing long-term alcohol rehabilitation counseling.
Dennis enjoyed fishing and hunting, motor sports and loved to work with his adopted grandsons Brian Taylor and Daniel Williams with motocross. The family wrote, “Dennis was very passionate about his work and took a lot of pride in helping people. It was one of his best qualities.” He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was a “Friend of Bill.”
On Sept. 24, 1980, Dennis was united in marriage with Brenda Greil in Merrill, Wis. Brenda survives, as do three children, Kathleen, Dennis and Dorothy, and two sisters, Mary Koleta of Milwaukee, Wis., and Betty Nikolai of Wausau, Wis. His parents and brother Albert preceded him in death.
At his request, no services will be held. His ashes will be spread at one of his favorite spots near Denali. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Dennis Drew Memorial Fund at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning in Wasilla, which is in charge of the arrangements.
