Palmer resident Dennis Roger Stengrim, 75, died at home of cancer April 26, 2004.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. Pastor Dick Allen will officiate. Pallbearers will be Devin Donn, Casey Donn, Tom Sojka, Carol Christiansen, Bill Church and Ron Erbey. Honorary pallbearer will be Charlie Fox. Burial with military honors will be at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. A reception will follow at St. John Lutheran Church following the interment.

Mr. Stengrim was born November 28, 1928, in Warren, Minn.

From 1947 to 1949, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the occupation of Japan.

Mr. Stengrim became a resident of Alaska in 1954. He lived in Ketchikan, Sitka and Kenai before making his home in Palmer in 1970. Mr. Stengrim was a proud member of the IBEW Local 1547, working as an electrician for 40 years and retiring in 1989.

He had been a member of the Pioneers of Alaska since 1987.

His children said, "Dad was a devoted husband of 52 years, a loving Christian father, and a wonderful grandpa.

"He always put his family first and loved to spend time with his grandchildren and always referred to them as his life investment. He will be greatly missed."

Mr. Stengrim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly; daughter and son-in-law, Dena and Chuck Donn of Palmer; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ron Lovell of Willets, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Kimberly Stengrim of Palmer; grandchildren, Devin, Casey and Danielle Donn, Alicia, Andrea, Kyle, Seth and Avery Lovell, and Channing, Darian, Adrian, Dylanne and Dustin Stengrim; brother, Dean Stengrim of Stephen, Minn. and sister and brother-in-law Joy and Arvid Thompson of Crookston, Minn.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the charity of one's choice in Mr. Stengrim's name.

Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
