Christians who entertain thoughts of depression and fear do not understand what they have in Christ Jesus. As Christians, we are children of God and all the blessings of the Bible. God’s word is there for us, the word of God shows us that we have authority over Satan in the name of Jesus. So when negative thoughts come — thoughts of depression, fear, anxiety, anything that would pull you down — you need to do what the word of God says.
Philippians 4:8 says, “whatever things are true … noble… just… pure… lovely of good report … if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things.”
Meditate — think on the good.
The Bible says cast all your care upon him, for he cares for you.
2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
When those negative things come to mind, refuse to think on them. God doesn’t want you entertaining them. Of course, the adversary wants you to think on them, because Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, “lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.” As a child of God, you are an over-comer in Christ Jesus.
No Christian should be depressed that stands on the word of God and continually practices God’s truth. Remember what Jesus did in Matthew when he went into the wilderness for 40 days and was tempted by Satan, he came against Satan by using the word of God.
Apostle Paul tells us, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
What Jesus did in the wilderness is what we need to do when negative thoughts come. Speak the word in the name of Jesus, say, “I am not going to entertain those negative or depressing thoughts.”
Have you noticed people who speak against God’s word in this area or any other? They can never believe for the blessings that God has for them in that area, that is why we want to understand that when we believe and practice the Bible, God will be there to perform his word that he has given us.
We read in the word of God that when fear comes in, faith leaves. God doesn’t want you fearful of anything. It has been said, “thou shall not fear” appears 365 times in the Bible. Christians need to allow the word of God to work in their life by believing and practicing the word of God.
Paul goes on to say, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Verse 19 “and my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. “
Why would a Christian allow depression or fear to come upon them, with such great love and blessings God has shown and given through Christ Jesus?
We all have the opportunity to take up thoughts that are negative to our well-being. So make the decision not to entertain them. Be a doer of the Word, not a hearer only.
