Diesel emissions are harmful, too

To the editor:

I love Moose Creek Hill. Driving down the first slope you can see the beautiful vistas that defined my ancestors’ lives since time immemorial.

I’ve driven back up Moose Creek Hill behind big trucks many a time. I shift down to third, sometimes even second gear, and putt up the big hill until I get to the passing lane. I don’t like passing big trucks. It makes me nervous. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have at least 72 trucks (36 round trips) each day hauling loads of coal up that hill. I hope I never have to see trucks loaded with coal climbing that hill and empty ones barreling down it.

I didn’t realize until recently that there are 40 cancer-causing particulates in diesel fuel emissions. How can anyone think this won’t harm the environment?
