Dimond stuns Colony during the final seconds

It has been nearly two years since Colony celebrated a conference win on its own turf. The Knights were within reach Friday, but defending Division I state champion Dimond used a fourth-quarter rally to stun the Knights.

Dimond quarterback Carter Woodhead tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the final quarter and led three scoring drives as the Lynx used 19 unanswered points to top the Knights 25-22 during a wet night at Colony High.

Woodhead’s final dagger came with 22.6 seconds left, a 6-yard scoring pass to push Dimond ahead. It was the Anchorage squad’s first lead of the game.

Colony, now 2-3 overall and 1-3 in Division I Cook Inlet Conference play, was in search of its first CIC win at home since beating Dimond Sept. 29, 2023.

Woodhead sparked Dimond’s rally with a 15-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the fourth quarter. That, and his run on the ensuing 2-point conversion, cut Colony’s lead to 22-14. The Lynx added a 22-yard field goal about three minutes later.

Friday also marked Dimond’s first win of the 2025 season. The Lynx beat West Anchorage 14-7 to win the 2024 DI title, but started this year 0-4.

Colony carried a 22-6 lead into the fourth quarter. Keoni Pili used a 5-yard touchdown run with just more than nine minutes left in the third quarter to help push Colony’s advantage to 16 points. It was Pili’s second score of the day. The senior also had a 9-yard touchdown during the final minute of the first half.

Pili had 48 yards on 12 carries in the loss.

Colony junior quarterback Marley Fakatoumafi gave the Knights their first lead of the day with a 9-yard touchdown pass with 2:38 left in the first quarter.

Fakatoumafi had 13 completions for 127, with the touchdown and an interception. Tyrus Fischer led the Knights with six catches for 65 yards.

With just three weeks left in the regular season, Colony sits in a three-way tie with Juneau-Douglas and Dimond at 1-3 in the Division I standings. West Anchorage is the lone undefeated team left in the division at 5-0 overall, and 4-0 in conference play. The Eagles blanked rival East Anchorage 20-0. Service, South Anchorage and Bartlett are also in a three-way tie at 3-1. Bartlett handed Service its first loss of the year with a 12-6 double-overtime win over the Cougars. East (0-5, 0-4) is in eighth place.

Colony now has consecutive road games at South Anchorage and Juneau, before capping the regular season at home Oct. 3 against Bartlett.
