The Colony High School Rifle Team is sponsoring lasagna fund-raiser dinner tonight from 6 to 8 p.m., in conjunction with the CHS Drama Department's production of 1984 at the school, 9550 Colony Schools Drive, tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. Ticket prices for the 7 p.m. show and dinner are $15 or $10 at the door for dinner only. The Rifle Team will use its proceeds to help purchase equipment.
Long-time local theater set and lighting designer as well as director-producer Brian Mead directs this tech-savvy production featuring a combination of veterans and newcomers to the Colony High stage. Winston Smith (the everyman with the courage of Winston Churchill) is played by veteran actor Alex Lindgren, and his lover and fellow rebel Julia is portrayed by second-year drama club member Haley Wangberg. The menacing inner-party leader, O’Brien, is portrayed dauntingly by Gabriel Rein. And the disembodied face of the party barking news and directives from the tele-screen is played by senior Kitty Mahoney. The play also features the intimidating face of Steve Byrd (former drama director at CHS) as Big Brother and American History teacher Ashley King as rebel leader Goldberg. Senior Shea Hendren offers the remarkable contribution of an original musical score helping to establish the mood of this science-fiction classic.
