Disapproves of cartoon

To the editor:

I’d like to suggest you may have had a lapse in editorial judgment in publishing today’s cartoon — May 14, 2012 — in “The World According to Chuck.” In spite of the disclaimer that it may not represent the views of the paper, yourself or the owner, you did in fact choose to publish it.

My objection to the cartoon is that it unfairly, and in fact slanderously, represents Bible-believing Christians — and by implication Christ — as hypocritical, hard-hearted and murderous.

What does the Bible say about homosexuality or sexual immorality whether hetero or homo? While Revelation 21:8 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 make it clear that the sexually immoral will not inherit the kingdom of God, the gospel of John 8:3-11 tells of the encounter of Jesus with the adulterous woman whom the Pharisees brought to the Lord to see what he would say about stoning her. In this encounter, the Lord clearly displays his heart for those who are without Christ. His mercy here points to the cross where he provided for all of us the payment of our sins and shows his tender love, not his hypocrisy, murderousness or hard-heartedness.

I hope one day Chuck, you, and, in fact, everyone may come to know the wondrous love, excellence of character and redeeming resurrection power of the risen and reigning Christ.
