Discouraged about voting

To the editor:

I will be 18 this year and my parents raised me to be a responsible citizen, but I feel discouraged about voting.

Where are the statesmen who have the integrity and wisdom to direct government affairs and deal with public issues? It seems all we have are politicians who are corrupt and bash each other.

Instead of true leadership and upholding the Constitution, they tell us what they think we want to hear and make promises they can’t keep or have to make bad deals to keep. They put out what will get the most press coverage.

Even our local leadersaren’t immune to special interest pressure and distraction politics. We as citizens are fed too much information about their moral sins rather than keeping focused on their actual contributions to the community.

It is almost a full-time job to try and find the useful information on any candidate or issue.

In today’s political climate I can almost understand why many who would be good leaders won’t step up and subject themselves or their families, friends and colleagues to any kind of campaign. For the coming elections I have not found any candidate I feel comfortable supporting.
