Dismayed over CEO’s salary

To the Editor:

I was astounded when I attempted to read the article about Matanuska Telephone Association and how much (CEO Greg) Berberich gets paid — he who also gave himself a bonus.

I guess it’s just too hard to live on more than $450K a year!

With membership down by 50 percent from 10 years ago, how could any cooperative feel justified paying this kind of annual salary, and then have the audacity to give themselves bonuses?

I would like to see the paper take a stand against this kind of robbery and expose these greedy individuals for who they really are. Maybe if you helped with this, people would actually exercise their right to vote and get some representatives in our association who might want to see MTA succeed and guarantee its future in years to come.

I know as a business owner I have stuck it out with my local utility even though the competition offers much better rates than what I am currently paying. I can promise you however, that if things continue the way they are, fattening the pockets of a few very greedy individuals, I will take my business to another utility.
