Hello, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mark Neuman. I am proud to announce my candidacy for the Alaska State House of Representatives, representing District 15. My interest in representing the people stems from several areas. One is the poor representation by our current representative. We need now, more than ever, to start to build a trust in our future legislative bodies.Last spring, after listening to Gov. MurkowskiÕs State of the State address, and not too happy about the idea of using the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend to support government overspending, or the veto of the longevity bonus program, I was inspired to become a delegate to the Conference of Alaskans. To my surprise and delight I was chosen. After my name was announced, folks from around the state called to offer their ideas. I was very intrigued with their words and found I had a lot in common with them. There was a theme of disconnect from their elected officials, the feeling of nonrepresentation of their interests by government. As a delegate, I was further encouraged to run for state representative by suggestions from people I truly respect and admire, such as this from Bella Hammond (wife of former Gov. Jay Hammond): ÒAfter witnessing the performance of Mark Neuman, as a member of the GovernorÕs Fairbanks fiscal gap conference, I was immensely impressed. His uncommon sense indicates he would make a splendid Legislator. I only wish there were dozens more like him willing to run.Ó Also, Houston mayor and former fellow Republican candidate Dale Adams feels I will Òdo a good job representing the people and communities of District 15.ÓDeveloping a trust with your representative, being certain they are representing your interests, will be needed before any long-range fiscal plan will be supported and approved by the people. As your representative, I will participate as fully as possible with local community councils, local business chambers, community events, senior centers and public safety organizations. I will participate with high school civics classes to talk with them about how bills are introduced, legislation debated and laws signed. Let them know how important it is to be part of the process. You need assurance that your state representative will be there when you need them, and represent your views, not those of special interests. One person can make a difference, through teamwork, with the backing of his constituents.Who is Mark Neuman? I am the guy next door, the mechanic, the equipment operator, business owner, property owner, woodworker and family man. Most importantly, I am a concerned citizen who believes we need a Ògovernment for the people by the people.Ó I am a fiscal conservative. I will protect the permanent fund. I will protect your Second Amendment right to bear arms. I will protect equal access to hunting and fishing for all Alaskans. I feel the longevity bonus program needs to be funded. We need to support small businesses, help them find ways to supply health insurance plans to their employees. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. Accessibility to your government is vital in the planning of our future as individuals and communities, and should be developed toward your best interests. Mat-Su has been experiencing record-breaking growth, with the need for a strong voice for the people of District 15. Coal-bed methane, school funding, and emergency service issues need to be resolved. As your state representative, I will strive to provide accessibility, honesty, and a hard-work ethic to you, the people. Your state representative should always be willing to sit down and have an open, candid conversation, on any topic, with anyone. I look forward to talking with and meeting as many folks as I can, as I plan to hit the ground running. Please call me at 892-7906 to discuss your ideas and concerns.I will make the people of District 15 proud of their state representative. Mark Neuman is a Republican candidate for District 15.
