Divers lead Valley athletes at Bartlett/Chugiak swim meet

PALMER — The divers led Valley athletes during the annual Bartlett/Chugiak Invitational swimming and diving meet.

Colony’s Eli Krozel won the boys’ 1-meter dive, amassing 414.5 total points. Krozel finished just ahead of Wasilla’s Kade Reynolds, who was the runner-up with 409.5 total points. A trio of Valley divers placed in the top 5 of the girls’ class. Wasilla’s Carrie Meyer was the runner-up with 376.5 total points. Palmer’s Tyler Coffman and Taylor Miller finished fourth and fifth.

Colony was the top Valley program in the meet, finishing fourth overall in the combined scoring with 374 points. The Colony boys were fourth in their class and the girls were fifth.

Jonathan Cowin notched a win in the swimming events, finishing first for the Colony boys in the 100 backstroke. Cowin was also fourth in the 100 butterfly. Konnor Kolberg was second in the 200 individual medley and third in the 100 freestyle for Colony. Karson Kolberg finished fourth in the 100 breastroke and fifth in the 200 freestyle for the Knights. The Colony boys were also second in the 400 freestyle relay and third in the 200 medley relay.

Joscelyn Barrette led the Colony girls with a fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle.

Colony, Wasilla and Palmer will compete in the Valley Invitational Friday and Saturday. The event at the Wasilla Pool is hosted by Palmer High School. Kenai, Kodiak, Soldotna, Unalaska, Seward, Valdez, Cordova and Bethel are also slated to attend. The preliminary events start Friday at 9:45 a.m. Finals start Saturday at 12:15 p.m.
