WASILLA — The ASAA First National Cup Division I state hockey tournament will feature a trio of Valley teams.
Wasilla, Colony and Palmer all have a spot in the bracket of the tourney, which starts Thursday at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.
Wasilla High is the highest seeded Valley squad in the eight-team tournament. The Warriors, who finished first in the Mid-Alaska Conference, was tabbed the fifth seed and will face fourth-seeded Eagle River in the final game of the first day of the tournament, Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Colony, the MAC runner-up, is seeded sixth and faces third-seeded Service Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Eighth-seeded Palmer meets top-seeded South Anchorage Thursday at 5 p.m.
Palmer beat Homer 6-5 in overtime Feb. 2 to win the ASAA First National Cup Division II state championship. ASAA has introduced a new format for the Division I hockey state tournament, which includes a spot for the Division II state champion in the bracket.
The quarterfinals also features second-seeded Dimond playing seventh-seeded West Anchorage Thursday at noon.
Wasilla and Palmer are both on the top side of the bracket. The Knights are on the bottom side.
