The Alaska Division of Forestry has suspended permitted burning in the Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage areas effective as of 10 a.m. Saturday due to high winds and dry conditions. According to a news release from the state, under the burn suspension, any outdoor debris burning and the use of burn barrels is prohibited. Small campfires under 3-feet in diameter are allowed but extreme caution is advised to guard against the potential for wildfires. The burn suspension will be in effect through the weekend.
