Some of the current Wasilla City Council members haven’t been in Wasilla for as long as the Meta Rose Square. The mall has been a part of downtown and even kept it going for some years, so they may be aware when they talk of revitalizing downtown that removing a staple of downtown is a blight on their story.
Turning an active mall, the last indoor mall in Wasilla, into a library is a horrible idea and takes away from downtown. While I may shop at Target, I love my local merchants and I am sorry there is no space left for them in the new downtown. Since the mayor is a man, he probably isn’t much of a shopper so he have may not known the value of the mall, the community events that happen there that small businesses sponsor: The live eagle from the bird center or the bake sale table for animal rescue. Local merchants offer more than just a place to shop. I don’t want another strip mall. I want my community to stay where it has for the last 30 years, indoors at the Meta Rose.
