Palmer resident Donalie Kitchen died April 28, 2003, at Valley Hospital. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 7, at 7 p.m. at the Wasilla Senior Center with Rev. Duane Minkler officiating. Music will be provided by Miss Chelsea Doerr.
Mrs. Kitchen was born May 29, 1926, in Santa Barbara, Calif. She came to Alaska in November 1990 to be close to her family. She lived in Palmer from November 1990 to January 2003, then moved to Wasilla, where she resided until her death.
She worked as a commercial artist in San Bernadino, Sacramento and San Diego, Calif. She retired from Creative Services in San Diego, Calif., in 1990.
Mrs. Kitchen participated in the Lions Club, Palmer Food Bank, Mat-Su Miners and the local Literacy Project. She was a tennis enthusiast, never missing a televised match. She enjoyed crafts and loved animals of all kinds, even "Daisy."
Her family wrote, "Mom was the snappiest dresser I know; her talents were endless. Her food preparations were the highlight of any meal to which she contributed. She was proud of her busy grandchildren and couldn't believe how lucky she was to have a son-in-law like BJ. She was intelligent and somewhat opinionated; she reveled in the many hugs she received from Emma and Bayli."
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jan & BJ Jenski of Palmer; son and daughter-in-law Ken and Gricelda Kitchener of Colima, Mexico; grandchildren Dana and AJ Jenski of Palmer and Marita Kitchener of Colima, Mexico; grand-nieces Emma and Bayli of Palmer; and sister-in-law and her husband Lois and Don Henson of San Diego, Calif.
