Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit No. 15 is continuing to collect items to send to military service members serving overseas. Auxiliary member Barbara Ray said their book and magazine drive was so successful, now they need help with donations for postage to ship the items.
The auxiliary continues to collect items at the American Legion in Palmer and Waldenbooks in Wasilla.
In addition to cash donations to help with postage costs, also needed are:
Unused greeting cards, beef jerky, hard candy — no chocolate or Skittles, salted peanuts or mixed nuts, Kool-Aid, Crystal Light, energy drinks, cough drops, travel-size mouthwash, portable CD players, baseball caps, birthday or holiday decorations, birthday and other greeting cards, nail files and clippers, balloons, dental floss, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, XBox games, sunglasses, squirt guns, cheap toys, bug repellant, sunscreen — SPF 45, trail mix, granola bars, Power Bars, Listerine strips, unscented foot powder, prepaid phone cards, yo-yos, Frisbees, unscented lip balm, electronic games, batteries, plastic coated playing cards, Nerf footballs, hacky sacks, paperback books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, bandanas, mini board games, combs and brushes, Girl Scout cookies — no chocolate, mini fans and batteries for them.
Ray said she will take some of the Christmas cards she’s collected to Palmer area elementary schools and ask students to write notes inside. The personalized cards wishes will be sent with the packages, she said.
