Donna Mae Button
Long time Palmer resident Donna Mae Button, 61, passed away July 29, 2021.
A service will be held at Palmer Family Church of the Nazarene, 1951 N Hemmer Rd. Palmer, AK on Saturday September 4th at 2 pm AKST and stream live on the Palmer Family Church Facebook page.
Donna was born on January 28, 1960 in Carroll, IA to Donald and Mary Steinkamp. She graduated from Madrid High School in 1978 and travel agent school the following year. The summer of 1980 she married Steven Button in Madrid, IA. Soon after the wedding Steve & Donna drove North to Alaska to begin their life together. Donna worked in the travel industry for 42 years including owning and operating her own agency, Travel Services and merging into ABC Travel Services. Donna loved to travel the world but mostly loved Hawaii and her home state of Alaska. She loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers, giant vegetables, and raspberries. She was a true Alaskan woman, fisherwoman and wouldn’t bat an eye at tagging along on a duck hunting trip. She loved walking on the beach whether warm or cold. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She was always there cheering them on in all their endeavors whether beside a pool, gym, field, or in life. She delighted in watching them grow and live their lives. Her door was always open and any kid who walked through her doors was considered family; many called her Mom and Grandma.
Donna is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Steinkamp; father, Donald Steinkamp; and brother, Larry Steinkamp. She is survived by her children; Dawn (Button) & Zach Paulson, Lowell & LuAnn Button, Stephanie Button, Ben Button, Jaime & Ed Finch; grandchildren, Carter, Kaylee, Cooper, and Kenna Paulson, Steven and Carl Button, Layla Hoglin, Mason and Jaxon Finch; her sister, Karen (Steinkamp) & Rob Tucker; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart Gallery of Alaska www.heartgalleryak.com or ALS Association of Iowa www.alsa.org/iowa
Donna’s ashes will be scattered on her raspberry patch in Palmer, AK and on Spencer Beach in Hawaii.
