Don’t trade coal for salmon

To the editor:

I would like to address Gov. Sean Parnell about the resource trading that seems to be going on between salmon and coal. I speak for many who want you to stay true to your word that you wouldn’t trade one resource for another. In particular, the Chuitna River versus coal development through the middle of this wild salmon stream.

We’re fortunate here to have many river systems that support healthy runs of wild salmon but they are finite and if we want them to flourish we cannot allow them to be dug up or tainted for any reason. It feels especially infuriating to me knowing a decision-making official would even consider sacrificing such a precious resource to outsiders for temporary profiteering.

Let us join together in this effort to make certain a trade such as this isn’t made, and every salmon stream remains safe under our watch.
