Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Doran Lanier Olson, 69, died Sept. 21, 2001 at home in Palmer. Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 25, at St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer. Pastor Jonathan Rockey officiated.
Mr. Olson was born April 5, 1932, to Donald and Alma in Simcoe, N. D. Mr. Olson moved to Alaska in 1965 and had lived in Palmer since 1971.
Mr. Olson served in the Army from 1956-58 and was honorably discharged.
He retired from civil service at Fort Richardson in March 1995. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and woodworking.
His family said: "Doran loved and always put his family first. He was a caring, generous and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He was a Christian who kept family and friends in his daily prayers. Doran will be greatly missed until we all meet again in heaven."
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary; children and their spouses, Julie Faller, Craig, Grant and Kim, Eric and Penny, Margaret and Neil Arneson, and Ryan; grandchildren, Jennifer Faller, Danielle and Trevor Olson; brother, Aldon; sister, Carole Demoreuille; aunt, Cora Odland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Olson was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn, and sisters, Lona Westford and Eunice Miller.
