DORATHA L. FAY

Wasilla resident Mrs. Doratha Lois Fay, 74, died of cancer at her home April 30, 2004.

A memorial service will be held June 5 at 11 a.m. at the Wasilla Lake Church of the Nazarene, 2001 Palmer-Wasilla Hwy. Rev. Lawrence Golden will officiate.

Mrs. Fay was born April 28, 1930, in Los Angeles, Calif.

She was a graduate of Santa Ana High School.

Mrs. Fay had lived in Portland, Ore., for 45 years before moving to Wasilla on June 21, 2003.

She had been a retail sales clerk at Cornnetts for 15 years and the Monarch Drug Store in Portland. She retired in 1999.

Mrs. Fay attended the Moreland Nazarene Church in Portland for six years.

Her hobbies included ceramics, oil painting, crocheting, mushroom hunting, gardening and visiting her children and grandchildren.

Her paintings took second place at the Craig 4th of July Fair.

Her family wrote, "She was a very strong, courageous woman who was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She received her driver's license when she was 50 years old and enjoyed traveling after that. She was loved and will be missed by her friends and family."

Mrs. Fay was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Scott Fay, in 2001.

She is survived by her son, Richard D. Fay, of Wasilla; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Boyd Heidy of Wasilla, Pamela Smith of Vancouver, Wash., Victoria and Doug Davis of Roy, Utah, and Debbie and Rick Johnson of Bend, Ore.; grandchildren Pat and Danny Fay of Milwaukie, Ore., Jeremy Heidy of Anchorage, Jarred Heidy of Craig, David, Mike and Brad Smith of Vancouver, Randie Layman of Roy, Patricia Davis of Roy, and Reed and Ross Johnson of Bend.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
