Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Funeral services for Palmer resident, Doris Edna Edmonds, 81, was held on Saturday at Kehl's Palmer Mortuary at 1 p.m. Private burial was at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Edmonds, Wesley Pennington, Gilbert Edmonds Jr., Daryl Sebelius, Carl Gaines and Michael Edmonds Jr.
Mrs. Edmonds died Jan. 26, 2004, at Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 4, 1922, in Burlington, Kan., and came to Alaska in October of 1964, living in Anchorage from 1964 to 1972 at which time she moved to Palmer.
She had worked for the Westward Hotel in Anchorage and the Valley Hotel in Palmer. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and the Waitresses Union. Mrs. Edmonds loved to share and exchange recipes and bake and cook. She crocheted and loved her horses.
She is survived by her husband Chuck Edmonds of Palmer; daughter Kaye Land of Crystal Beach, Texas, and daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Earl Graham of Union, Ore.; step-sons Gilbert Edmonds of Florence, Ariz., and Michael Edmonds of Palmer; step-daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Thom Swavely of Palmer; sister and brother-in-law Sherry and Ken Holder of Elizabeth, Colo.; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Ima Line of Thornton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1106, Palmer, AK 99645.
