Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Doris Straight of Palmer passed away with family at her side on Nov. 5, 2001, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, after a short battle with lung cancer. She was 61 years old.
Mrs. Straight was born Jan. 15, 1940, in Casper, Wyo., to Odetta and George Harrison. She married Lyle Straight Sr., and moved to Alaska, where they homesteaded on Knik River Road. She raised her four children and worked for the state of Alaska. She retired from the state in 1995.
Her hobbies were camping, fishing, hunting, sewing and playing bunco with the "girls."
her family said: "Doris will be remembered by all who knew her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We know that there is an angel on all of our shoulders. She will be forever missed and never forgotten."
Mrs. Straight is survived by her husband of 45 years, Lyle Straight Sr.; sons, Lyle Straight Jr. of Wasilla and Donald Straight of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and Kenny Whatley of Palmer; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jenny Straight of Palmer; four sisters; one brother; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family has requested all donations be sent to Providence House, P.O. Box 196604, Anchorage, AK 99519-6604, in her name.
