DORISMAE MELIN

A funeral service for Palmer resident Dorismae Melin, 71, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 30, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Palmer, with Father Leo Desso officiating. A reception will follow at the home of Dorismae Melin.

Mrs. Melin died Oct. 25, 2001, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. She was born Sept. 28, 1930, in Powers Lake, N. D. She attended two years of college and moved to Anchorage in 1967 and to Palmer in 1973.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Mrs. Melin enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting.

Her family said: "Mom and her nine children left North Dakota, her birthplace, in 1967 to follow her husband and his dream to live in the 'Last Frontier.' Over the years she raised her children and ran a tight ship at home. She and Dad had many wonderful friendships, which always led to family outings with lots of kids, dogs and good food.

"Her door was always open to her children's friends and a celebration was always around the corner. She was well-known for her home-baked goodies and breads. Many family and friends were recipients of her famous afghans, which were made in many colors and with lots of love. She was a real class act!"

Mrs. Melin was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Melin, and son, Jerry Melin. She is survived by her children, Sandy Butera of Eagle River, Joe Melin, Shelly Keown, Cindy Kloster, Check Melin and Clinton Melin, all of Palmer, Jim Melin of King Salmon and Jon Melin of Kodiak; sister, Alyce Brutosky of Great Falls, Mont.; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, Mat Su Unit, P.O. Box 431, Palmer, AK 99645. Arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
