Double-winners lead Palmer girls track squad

PALMER — A Palmer pair each scored a pair of wins to lead the Moose to the girls’ team title during the Valley Extravaganza Friday afternoon at Palmer High School.

Emma Uschmann swept the throws and Teeana Nicholai won the sprits to help Palmer finish with 271 total points. Uschmann enjoyed a couple of season highs, finishing first in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 8 inches and first in the discus with a mark of 92-8. Nicholai won the 100 with a time of 13.21 and was first in the 200 with a mark of 28.44.

Shayna Madruga (400), Ruby Woodings (800) and Shawna Johnson (triple jump) also won events for the Palmer girls.

Travis Christman-Strawn used a personal best in the 200 to help Wasilla finish first in the boys team standings. Christman-Strawn won the event with a time of 24.71. Isaak Bell (400), Kaleb Greathouse (1,600) and Andrew Bashor (3,200) also won events for Wasilla.

Donovan Eiman used a pair of personal records to help the Palmer boys finish second in the meet. Eiman finished first with marks of 6-0 in the high jump and 40-11.5 in the triple jump, both personal bests. Matthew Daniels was also a double-winner sweeping, the boys’ hurdles. Nick Johnson (100), Lev Robertson (800) and Travis Wheeler (shot put) also won events for the Moose.

Wasilla Lake Christian’s Lizzie Palmberg earned a pair of wins, finishing first in the girls’ 100 and 300 hurdles. Defending state champion Ceil Dunleavy won the high jump for the Wasilla girls. Victoria Malak (long jump) also won an event for the Wasilla girls.

Allison VanPelt (1,600), Ben Bitler (discus) and Kashawn Gold (long jump) won events for Houston.
