Dozens endure cold at triathlon

PALMER — Nearly 75 rugged athletes braved cool temperatures to compete in the 13^th annual Colony Christmas Triathlon Sunday in Palmer.

Anchorage’s Jason Lamoreaux won the men’s race of the event, which is held each year in conjunction the Colony Christmas celebration, hosted by the Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce.

Lamoreaux finished the event — which includes a 15-kilometer bike ride, 5-K run and 500-meter swim — in 46 minutes and 6 seconds. Scott Clemetson finished second at 48:42, and Josh Lothspeich, Ryan Keogh and David Martin rounded out the top-5.

Wasilla’s Pam Winders women the women’s class with a time of 52:09. Heather Hogge, also of Wasilla, was second at 57:18.

Peak Fitness, in Palmer, was headquarters for the race, which included 74 triathletes. Race officials credited the work of 35 volunteers who helped make the race a success.
